The brain functions are studied through the use of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), a non invasive technique that allows to observe the brain activity in vivo while an individual is performing a given task or is presented with a specific stimulation. It allows to investigate the activity of cortical areas as well as of deep emotional and autonomic structures, whose activation is not detectable with other techniques.
